A Decade of Protecting Capital in Kenya

Founded in Garissa in 2014, Sparkborbit exists to provide disciplined, long-term capital protection advisory to those who have too much at stake to rely on generic financial planning.

What Sparkborbit Does, in Plain Language

Sparkborbit is a specialist advisory firm. We help high-net-worth individuals, family business owners, and estates in Kenya ensure that accumulated wealth is not eroded by avoidable legal, structural, or succession failures. We do this by assessing the risks specific to each client's situation — currency exposure, creditor vulnerability, estate fragmentation, lack of formal trust structures — and then designing a layered protection architecture that addresses those risks in order of severity and probability. We work across four service areas: risk management consultation, insurance-linked protection wrappers, formal holding structures (trusts, family foundations, and special-purpose vehicles), and an annual advisory retainer. We serve clients primarily in Garissa, Nairobi, and Mombasa, as well as Kenyan families with asset interests in East Africa more broadly. Our work is purely advisory: we do not execute transactions, manage portfolios, or hold client funds at any point. Every recommendation we make is written, reasoned, and reviewed annually against changed circumstances. Transparency about what we do not do is as important to us as clarity about what we do.

How the Firm Works — Process, Values, and Honest Limits

Sparkborbit was established in 2014 after its founders observed that the Garissa market had no dedicated capital protection practice — financial advice in the region defaulted to product sales, not structural counsel. Over the decade since, the firm has grown to a team of five, completed protection reviews for over 180 clients, and developed a methodology that has remained consistent regardless of market conditions. Our process begins with a minimum six-session discovery and assessment phase. We do not accept engagements from clients who cannot or will not provide complete disclosure of their asset and liability position — partial information produces dangerously incomplete protection designs. We are also explicit about results that depend on factors outside our control: the robustness of any structure ultimately depends on Kenyan regulatory continuity, accurate client disclosure, and the involvement of qualified external legal counsel for the formal documentation. We draft briefs and specifications; qualified lawyers draft the legal instruments. Clients who expect a one-stop-shop that also executes investments, manages banking relationships, and provides tax accounting will find our scope narrower than they require, and we would rather acknowledge that at the outset than overpromise.
